Community Day is here again, blessing us with a favorable shiny rate, hordes of Turtwig and for some people their first shot at a Torterra, Turtwigâs third tier evolution. There has been something wonderful about the familiarity of these events since their introduction in late 2017, but Niantic does like to keep us on our toes, at least to a certain degree. So hereâs the warning: it starts a lot earlier than previous times.
For anyone scanning this, Turtwig Community Day goes from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM, local time.
The past few Community Days have been from 4:00-700 PM local time, which switched over as Summer began, presumably to spare those in the northern hemisphere some brutal temperatures resulting both from standard weather patterns and the continuing effects of man-made climate change. This will not be the case with this one, as weâre rolling back to fall time.
So donât assume you know what time the September Community Day is: it goes from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time, which is significantly earlier than recent Community Days. So plan accordingly: you donât want to show up at 4:00 only to see that there are no Turtwig to be found.
If youâve never done a Community Day before, Iâd highly recommend it: find the nearest population center you can and see who is out playing Pokemon, or if youâre feeling more ambitious see if any communities in your area have something planned. Community Day is a way to see the trainers around you out in force, everyone heading out and cheering each other on as they hunt for shinies. And itâs going to be an excellent time to do some raids, because the increased trainer presence means that itâs a whole lot easier to find someone to help.
So remember: this thing starts a full 5 hours earlier than the last Community Day, and thatâs likely to be the case going forward. You canât really have a Community Day going at 7:00 PM in December, at least not in the Northern Hemisphere. This is sort of a new regime for Community Days writ large, as well: they used to take place at three different times based on your region, but now they just take place at the same clock hour based on local time, which is something that Niantic is doing a lot more of these days.
