The Pokémon Company has finally revealed that the glitchy Pokémon it announced is actually an evolution to an old Pokémon that's been there since the first generation.
The official "Pokémon Sword and Shield" website previously teased that a new Pokémon has been found and will be featured in the game. The teaser simply showed a glitchy Pokémon reminiscent of a first-gen glitch known as "Missingno." It also revealed that the new Pokémon will be a fighting type, weigh a heavy 257.9 lbs, and have an ability called "Steadfast."
Fans of the game wondered if this could be a Galarian form of Cubone. Others though that it could be Missingno becoming an official part of Pokémon canon. Others also speculated, with much gusto, that this could be an evolution to longtime Pokémon Farfetch'd.
The Pokémon Company has finally decided to clear the obvious confusion and announced that the new Pokémon is indeed "Sirfetch'd," a much-deserved evolution to the old duck Pokémon Farfetch'd.
It's a Farfetch'd evolution indeed
Farfetch'd has been with the series for as long as fans can remember. This duck Pokémon, which is always seen carrying a leek with it, didn't have an evolution until now. The official "Pokémon Sword and Shield" website said "Farfetch'd of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch'd after experiencing many battles." Obviously, Farfetch'd waited a long time for an evolution, and won't make it easy on players.
Sirfetch'd looks like a noble knight sans the heavy steel armor. It uses its familiar leek as a lance, and uses the leaves at the top of its leek as a shield. It has a very stern, no-nonsense appearance that seems to exude confidence befitting a knight.
The game's official website describes Sirfetch'd as being "calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings."
The noble Pokémon has a signature move that only it can learn. This move, "Meteor Assault," has Sirfetch'd pointing its leek at its enemy, and then has it charging forward at great speed. The move is very powerful, but will cause Sirfetch'd to be unable to move immediately after it is used.
Sirfetch'd is exclusive to "Pokémon Sword," and is the latest Pokémon to be revealed for the game.
