It’s the year of the Rat, and in Pokémon GO that means little Mincinno is taking center stage. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a limited research day, but they’ve been some of my favorite events in the game, combining the excitement and crowds of a community day with just enough more structure to make this more interesting than just wandering around, catching Pokémon. The first one of 2020 arrives this Sunday, February 2, and it stars a brand-new little critter.

Start/End Times: Mincinno limited research day will run from 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM local time on February 2, 2020.

Mincinno: We’ve got no shortage of rats here in this game, but Mincinno is a new one. The Chinchilla Pokémon is a little classier than its Unova cousin Patrat, with big soft ears and a wavy little tail. It evolves into Cincinno with the use of an Unova stone.

Other Pokémon: Rats will dominate, and like I said, there’s no shortage. Pokémon in keeping with the theme of the Lunar New Year will be spawning more frequently during that time. If you’ve played for any amount of time you’ve already got most of these, but still: spawns will include Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Sentret, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, Bidoof, and Patrat.

Tasks: Serebii has the full list for your perusal thank to dataminers, and it’s mostly standard stuff. Battle in a gym, battle in a raid, make certain types of throws, catch a featured Pokémon: nothing all that out of the ordinary. I fondly remember Clamperl research day, which had tasks designed to really let you burn through them, and it seems like this is going to fit that mold again.

Shiny: As with previous limited research days, shiny Mincinno, and by extension Cincinno, will be available. Mincinno gets a bit of a pink hue, and Cincinno is a little browner. You’ll want to catch two if you want to keep a complete collection. Check them out here, courtesy of Silph Road and reddit user dannymanny3:

And that’s what you need to know: turn up on Sunday for some Pokémon catching.
